Research

"If you recall I hired you in 2009 to locate any information regarding a friend of my mother's family who she had found out was actually her father. I knew he lived in Toledo, OH in the 1930s...and had at some point moved to Detroit, MI. I wanted  to give the information to my mother as a Christmas gift. You were able to provide me with not only enough information to make my mother's wish come true, but for me to be able to request his death certificate. 

...I noticed on his death certificate that he died at his home of  natural causes around Feb 2, 1980, but his body wasn't received by the  funeral home until April 16, where he was eventually cremated. ...appeared that he had remained unclaimed for 2 1/2. I...contacted the funeral home listed on the death certificate to see if they had any records of what may have caused this.

I talked to an elderly gentleman and explained who I was. Much to my complete and utter surprise he told me that my grandfather was still there. His ashes had never been claimed, but had remained at that funeral home for the last 30 years. (By law they could only release his cremains to a family member, but they were not allowed to dispose of them, and no one had ever come forth.) 

It's amazing how emotional I became about someone I never knew but whom my mother had always described as a good man. The thought of him being left alone for all those years was just the saddest thing to me. [We] couldn't leave him there. I contacted the funeral home and the cemetery in Toledo where many...family members are buried, and arranged to have his cremains shipped there. My mother and father were present at the burial where she was able to tell him goodbye, and we all now have such a sense of peace for being able to finally bring him home.
